Founded in 2007, EPRA (Eglinton Park Residents’ Association) is an incorporated group of local activists responding to the new, big towers that started to encroach on our part of town. Our territory is from Eglinton Park to Yonge, from Roselawn on the north to Eglinton on the south.
Our goal is to represent everybody here, whether homeowners or renters, whether high-rise or in houses on the ground.
We aim to establish and maintain a safe, healthy, ecologically sound community, with good facilities, and a strong sense of neighbourly support. We want good governance, and lively participation, healthy democracy at the local level.
We cherish our corner of the city and want to see it evolve in good directions.
What does EPRA do?
EPRA communicates: We speak for to our councillor, to other councillors, and to city officials. It meets with developers to discuss their plans. It writes, and speaks, to neighbours. We do this through this website, bulletins, emails, Facebook posts, NextDoor and conversations on the street.
EPRA takes action: We petition, write and mail official letters on matters of concern like traffic, noise, pedestrian safety, and plans both for the public realm (the park, the streets) and for private development.
EPRA goes to court: We have gone to the OMB (now LPAT) tribunal, as participant or party, when developments are contested or when they go through mediation. We have engaged with every big development on our territory and with others just across the boundary.
Here are some of our past campaigns.
Eglinton Park has allies!
We work closely with other Residents Associations, and we sit with FoNTRA, the Federation of North Toronto Residents’ Associations. We also reach out to other groups, the Midtown Yonge BIA, Rivers Rising/Toronto Green Community, and local historians. Please consider supporting them as well!
